Masterclass: Creative Careers by Design
"I wish I’d had this knowledge when I graduated from Central Saint Martins."
That’s what Marije de Haas, head of the Digital Design master’s program at Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, said at the end of our four-hour masterclass, “Creative Careers by Design.”
Four hours. That’s all it took to give graduating international students something that many creative professionals only discover after years of experience.
The uncomfortable truth is that we train students to become exceptional designers, artists, and creators, but rarely teach them how to build a sustainable career.
When should you choose to freelance, and when shouldn’t you? How do you build a career within a large organization? How do you set your rates? How do you protect your intellectual property? And perhaps the most important question: how do you stay relevant in a world that’s undergoing radical change due to Agentic AI?
Reggy de Feniks and Peter Guido de Boer led this masterclass and shared their experiences from both the creative industry and the business world. Through real-world examples, interactive exercises, and candid discussions, students not only went home inspired but, above all, well-prepared: with greater self-confidence and a clear direction, exactly when they need it most.
The reactions spoke for themselves:
🗣️ “That session was challenging, but incredibly valuable.”
🗣️ “I’m now much more conscious of what puts me in a flow—the tasks where I completely lose track of time.”
🗣️ “I finally know how to find my niche.”
The Digital Design master’s program at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences was the first to organize this masterclass. We are now further developing “Creative Careers by Design” into an integrated program for art academies, universities of applied sciences, and universities.
Because talent alone is no longer enough. The future belongs to creative professionals who understand creativity, technology, entrepreneurship, and themselves.
We’re currently planning masterclasses for the upcoming academic year. Do you lead a creative program and want your students to graduate with a strong position in the job market? Feel free to contact us or send me a message. info@oddny.eu
